Whilst nibbles are often extraneous to the main event at adult parties, at childrens parties the food is often the centerpiece, and a chance for everyone to sit down and wish the birthday boy or girl a happy birthday in style. With this in mind, childrens party food is fairly important, and there are several ways to go about it – each with their own advantages and disadvantages.
One way to cater for a childrens party is with classic food – this could mean everything from jelly and ice-cream to colourful birthday cakes. Of course, this approach means that the kids wont exactly be eating the healthiest food. However, it should be taken into account that a kids birthday party is only a rare event.
Many would also say that the high sugar content of such foods will send the kids hyper. However, children are likely to be excited at a party anyway, and their eating should be supervised to ensure they do not eat more than they can handle.
Another approach to catering for a children’s party is to try dishes which are homemade – and even healthy. This could mean anything from baking your own cakes, to moulding your own jellies. There are a few advantages in doing this – one of the clearest is that you can turn baking into something of a party game, and a chance for the kids to get a little messy – which they’re bound to love. Whoever makes the best ones could be given kids toys as a prize.
