Thinsulate fibres are much thinner than the polyester fibres normally used in clothing insulation, allowing them to create a dense, tangled mat that reflects radiant heat and traps air whilst allowing moisture to escape.
The manufacturer claims that, for a given thickness of material, Thinsulate provides 1 to 1.5 times the insulation of duck down, whilst being much less water-absorbent and much more resistant to crushing. The result is so good that Thinsulate products are used by many Armed Forces around the World.
